Photography

Through hired freelancer or in-house staff, UCM aims to offer centralized photographic services to the campus community. Contact your UCM account manager to discuss your photographic needs.

Photo shoots generally fall into four categories:

  1. Special events, for which departments will need physical prints or digital images for archival purposes
  2. Faculty or staff headshots (at a pre-scheduled session every other month, or other arrangements as requested through your UCM account manager)
  3. Editorial, campus beauty and marketing photography intended for OU Magazine features, departmental brochures, etc. These photo shoots are typically art directed, with a UCM representative or account manager present at the shoot
  4. Newsworthy events, which UCM covers for The News at OU or other university publications

To schedule a photo shoot, fill out a photography request form or contact your account manager with details which include: photography date and time; location; description of who or what needs to be photographed; and fund number. We will assign one of several pre-screened photographers in the area who offer competitive rates and are familiar with OU's procedures. Photographers will have three business days to supply the link to the photo images. If you need to have the images available sooner than the standard turnaround time, please let your account manager know when requesting the shoot and they will attempt to make special accommodations with the photographer. Once the assignment is completed, the photographer will send an invoice and a link to the digital images to UCM, and your fund will be charged, with the expense appearing in Banner under account K053. The images will then be archived in UCM's digital asset management system.

In representing the campus community, University Communications and Marketing (UCM) relies on authenticity to reflect the OU brand, and that's why UCM strives to offer real, relatable photos in everything produced. Artificial Intelligence (AI) image generation and deep retouching is inauthentic at its core, producing from an amalgam of learned or existing imagery and experiences. In today's rapidly changing digital environment, corporations akin to Meta and Adobe are identifying altered images with tags such as "imagined with AI" or "generative AI." UCM does not support using wholly generated images or images with generative retouching. Light retouching may be deemed appropriate, including: blemish removal; hair flyaways; basic lighting adjustments; modesty alterations; dust/speck removal, etc.
